Logo design

I have always been interested in design and graphics. I have never had any formal training. I didn’t go to art college or university and I have certainly never ‘studied’ design.

I designed and got paid for my first logo at fourteen. It was a logo for a company called Aquachute. The customer, or client, was a friend of my dad. I can’t remember how much I got paid for it… probably not very much but it is still one of my favourites out of the many hundreds I have designed over the years.

Most designers will tell you that over the years they can pick half a dozen logos they have designed that they are particularly proud of. The Aquachute logo is one of mine.

The brief for the Aquachute logo was a simple one. The client insisted the logo had to be black. It had to be able to be cut out as a stencil so the client could spray the logo quickly on to all sorts of marine and diving equipment such as inflatables, life vests etc.

I had always been fascinated by sharks so I designed the lettering to create the silhouette of a shark. The client was delighted and I had my first logo under my belt.
